Employers are responsible for any injuries sustained by employees during the course and scope of employment. Unfortunately, some employers still utilize dangerous equipment, implement insufficient safety practices and procedures, and fail to provide adequate training. Work-related injuries are often caused by repetitive stress, machinery accidents, mechanical malfunctions, heavy equipment, toxic chemical exposure, and slip and falls.

Injured employees are entitled to recover compensation for medical bills and wage loss under these circumstances. Individuals who obtain legal assistance in filing a worker’s compensation claim often obtain a greater recovery than those who act on their own. Once those benefits are accepted, the employee can no longer file a lawsuit against the employer. However, it is critical to evaluate possible claims against individuals or entities other than the employer who may be responsible for causing the work-related accident. One example is the manufacturer of a defective piece of equipment.
