Handling the Social Security Maze for Our Clients

Receiving benefits through Social Security is often a lengthy and confusing process. The attorneys at Weinstein, Schleifer & Kupersmith, P.C., are experienced in helping their clients receive the Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income they deserve.

Understanding SSD

Social Security Disability benefits ("SSD"), which are administered by the Social Security Administration, are potentially available to those individuals who have a history of working and paying taxes for a specified period of years. In order to be eligible to receive these benefits, an individual must establish that he has been unable to work for at least one year due to injury or illness, or that the individual is expected to remain out of work for at least one year for the same reasons.

Understanding SSI

Supplemental Security Income benefits ("SSI"), which are administered by the Social Security Administration, are potentially available to those individuals who have been unable to work for at least one year. Eligibility is not based upon past employment history or paying taxes into the Social Security system. Rather, an individual must only meet certain financial and U.S. residency requirements, in addition to being unable to work due to illness or injury. Additionally, children with severe health problems that cause significant limitations in their functioning may also be entitled to benefits depending upon their parents’ financial situation.
